About Us

Who We Are

Teton Wellness Affiliates is a group therapy practice, started by longtime community therapists Lorraine Thompson, LPC and Stephanie Kiser, LCSW. Collectively, we share many years of experience in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, ADHD, grief and loss, parent-child difficulties, and life transitions. The decision to join together is in response to the growing awareness and need for mental health services, and Teton Wellness Affiliates is excited to expand our services to better serve the community. In expanding services and reach, Teton Wellness Affiliates is now able to serve individuals and families throughout the lifespan, from children and adolescents to adults. Adding trusted therapists to our team allows us to build on the strong, reliable, creative, and committed care that we provide to our clients. We look forward to meeting you!

Stephanie Kiser

MSW, LCSW

Stephanie Kiser has served the community as a licensed clinical social worker and mental health therapist since 2009. She was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, and after graduating from the University of Virginia and some years in Denver, she made the Tetons her home eighteen years ago. Her only time in the flatlands was to get her Masters in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2008. Upon her return to Jackson, she worked at the Hirschfield Center for Children for many years as a therapist, child forensic interviewer, and as a child advocate before deciding to branch out into private counseling for people of all ages.

Stephanie chose Jackson as her home largely because of the gorgeous scenery and the beautiful people, but she also recognizes that among all this beauty, people still have struggles. Stephanie loves what she does and believes that it makes a significant impact to the health of individuals and the community as a whole. She has supported clients over the years in exploring life transitions, anxiety and depression, self-esteem, self-awareness, relationship issues, grief and loss, emotional and behavioral issues, divorce, health issues, and larger life questions.

She also has extensive experience working with child and adult survivors of trauma. She has specialized training in trauma work, including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Level 1 and Level II trained, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), among other techniques. Stephanie recognizes the deep responsibility in partnering alongside individuals in vulnerable and difficult places, and commits to do all she can to honor this.

Four years ago, Stephanie had the incredible opportunity to be invited into the creation of the Teton Interagency Peer Support team, the local interagency first responder peer support network. Alongside her friend and colleague Elizabeth Cheroutes, Stephanie has loved her role as a mental health support, connection, and resource for the TIPS team, and with many first responders throughout the community. Due to the rapidly increasing interest and growth of all that TIPS has built, the TIPS mental health team has recently expanded in response to this, welcoming six other providers to help support our first responders in Teton County.

In her free time, Stephanie loves to be outside jogging, cross country skiing, or hiking with her dog Ruby, though she is just as happy to curl up with a good book or hang out with friends and family.

Kristina

Kristina Owen

PPC

Kristina graduated from Prescott College in Arizona with a Master of Science in Counseling and a specialization in Marriage, Couples, and Families. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from the University of Washington in Seattle. As a Provisional Professional Counselor (PPC), she supports clients using a Person-Centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach. She is also training in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model. IFS is an evidence-based psychotherapy model that helps people heal by accessing and healing their protective and wounded inner parts. She builds on the strengths of the client(s) to maximize functioning and improve relationships. Her work is influenced by James Finley, Dr. Sue Johnson, Carl Jung, Carolyn Myss, and Esther Perel.

She was raised in a rural town south of Seattle and found herself drawn to the ski culture of the Tetons in the Fall of 2008. Before becoming a counselor, she worked in the service industry, the non-profit sector, and finally in sales at a large Chicago-based hedge fund. Many lessons were learned from working in a fast-paced, high-pressure corporate environment. One core lesson was learning that the avenue to inner peace is not via relationships, success, or orderliness, it is something that must come from within. She believes all people can access inner peace and considers it an honor to assist clients in self-discovery and healing. The words of poet David Whyte inspire her work, especially this portion of a poem called, “The Journey” which says,

Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out

Someone has written
Something new
In the ashes of your life.
You are not leaving.
Even as the light fades quickly now,
You are arriving.

She can be found skiing, sledding, or biking with her husband and two daughters in her free time. She also loves to write and read and is attempting to become more like Alice Waters in the kitchen, at ease, while joyfully feeding those she loves.

She supports her clients in understanding their emotional blocks to connection and communication and how to reshape these into the creation of positive cycles in their lives and relationships. Griffin Richards

Griffin Richards

PPC

Griffin was born and raised in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania and had visited Jackson every summer since she was 2. After graduating from Villanova University, Griffin attended the University of Denver for a Master’s in Sport and Performance Psychology. During her summer and winter breaks, Griffin would escape the city to rejuvenate her spirit at the base of the Teton Mountains. After graduating, Griffin returned to Jackson and is here to stay.

In Denver, Griffin worked as a mental skills consultant with youth athletes, performers, and teams to build healthier relationships with sports and educate coaches, parents, and players in mental skill training. She built a Coach-Athlete relationship program for youth soccer clubs, emphasizing the connection between athletes’ relationships with their coaches to their performance, happiness, and self-concept.

Griffin is passionate about helping clients find and create a secure place to celebrate themselves and all parts of their identities. She has experience with motivational interviewing and animal-assisted interventions. She works with clients to uncover the strengths within themselves. Griffin’s theoretical orientation stems from a person-centered, feminist, and multicultural lens, with a specific emphasis on the complexity of understanding and addressing emotions.
